Norfolk State unveils homecoming week of events

It’s officially homecoming week in at Norfolk State University! Homecoming kicked off this past weekend and the university has a week planned for fun-filled events. NSU has branded its homecoming as “Not Your Typical Homecoming.”  So let’s see how they plan on living up to the hype.

This year’s homecoming theme at NSU is “There’s No Place Like Home, like the famous quote from The Wizard of Oz. Each homecoming event is a loose adaptation of key references in the film.

NSU kicked off its homecoming events on October 22^nd with an “Ease On Down to Sparta” day party. This day party was held on campus in Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall for NSU students. There are events each day leading up to the football game against Morgan State and the tailgate this Saturday.

Yesterday, NSU held a “You Can’t Win” Games of Sparta game night hosted by Student Activities and Leadership and the Student Government Association. There was even a spades tournament. One thing is for sure HBCU students take spades very seriously so let’s hope no one reneged!

Other events will be happening this week, but students are most excited about the homecoming concert this Thursday. Artists Young Nudy and Glorilla are headlining.

Both artists have shown major love this homecoming season as both artists have performed and are set to perform at schools such as Alabama State, Spelhouse, and FAMU.

Following the concert is the step show and homecoming football game on Friday and Saturday. The NSU is currently 2-5 this season. Last week they played Howard University for their homecoming game, losing to them with a final score of 23-27.
