The Denver Nuggets need help, badly. A slew of injuries to their key players have severely hurt Nikola Jokic and the crew. They may be sitting at the seventh seed with a solid 19 – 18, but this team has the potential to be better than that.

It's no surprise, then, that their front office is on the hunt for some immediate help today. One of the names on the Nuggets list is former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. According to Shams Charania, Denver is close to signing Boogie to another 10-day deal.

If you'll recall, DeMarcus Cousins was initially signed by the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks on a 10-day contract. Unfortunately for Boogie, he wasn't resigned after his 10-day expired, leaving him as a free agent again. Now, he has a chance to prove himself again as the backup to the reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.

Cousins' fall from greatness is still one of the biggest what-ifs in NBA history. During his stint with the New Orleans Pelicans, he formed a dangerous big man duo with Anthony Davis. At the time, he was one of the five best players in the NBA, and a legitimate MVP contender (much like Jokic has been for the Nuggets). However, an Achilles injury derailed his career, and he was never quite the same after that.

Despite losing a step or two, Cousins has proven he can still be valuable in the right conditions. His time with the Warriors, while short, showed a glimpse of what he can do as the backup big man on a contending team. The Nuggets are banking on DeMarcus Cousins regaining that form to see whether he's worth keeping for the season.
