Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray wishes the media would shed more light on Kyrie Irving's good deeds, rather than focusing on his misgivings.

Irving faces punishment after potentially violating the NBA's Health and Safety protocols by attending his sister's birthday party without a mask. “Uncle Drew” had already missed the team's previous three games due to “personal reasons,” and could miss the remainder of this week.

But Murray wants to hear more about Irving's benevolence. He quote-tweeted a compilation of clips highlighting some of Kyrie's philanthropic and activist efforts, saying “They just pick n choose what they wanna really talk bout.”

Irving had been a bit of a lightning rod for controversy even before this latest incident. He skipped early media sessions and called members of the media “pawns” before retracting the sentiment. Now, he faces large fines and possible suspension for a possible broach of protocol.

However, it is fair for the Nuggets star to suggest Kyrie's other social works deserve more recognition. Players like LeBron James are renowned for their efforts in the community, and the NBA as a whole is a league full of players who pride themselves in communal works. It seems only right NBA media should shine more light on Irving's philanthropic efforts.

For his part, Murray previously donated meals to healthcare workers at UCHealth this past May. He also helped host basketball camps in Jamaica in the fall of 2019.

The dire situation regarding the NBA's struggles in handling the coronavirus pandemic is one of the reasons Irving's latest exploits are making headlines. But Murray wishes the media would focus on the good, perhaps lessening a certain sense of antagonism between the players and the press.

The Nuggets guard is enjoying a respectable start to the season, averaging 19.7 points through nine contests. His team will take on Brooklyn on Tuesday night.
