During Wednesday's overtime battle between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, Denver point guard Monte Morris clearly had some pointed words for the Lakers' LeBron James in the heat of competition. James appeared not to take kindly to what Morris had to say, attempting to continue the discussion as both teams moved towards their respective benches for a timeout.

But Thursday, Morris took to Twitter to clarify his perspective:

“It's always a dream come true to compete against a future HOF you've always idolized coming up. Much respect to Bron and what he's done for the game of basketball. Last night wasn't as major as everyone is making it seem, it was just two individuals from the mud competing for a W.”

Los Angeles eventually went on to snag the victory, with James logging a massive triple-double that saw him go for 32 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds. Conversely, Morris collected 12 points across 25 minutes coming off the bench.

Morris, a second-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, has battled for a roster spot with the Nuggets and has become entrenched as their primary backup point guard. The 24-year-old has had to carve out a niche to stay in both the league and the team's rotation.

These two teams will run it back March 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for their final regular season meeting, with the Lakers holding a 2-1 advantage. But with both teams currently in comfortable position of making the postseason, the in-game competition may not be slowing any time soon.
