Brent Venables is not an easy coach to please. The Oklahoma football head honcho has a lot of work cut out for him before the Alamo Bowl. He made the choice to start a true freshman in Jackson Arnold as they faced a tough Arizona football squad. There were a bunch of eyebrows that started rising when this move was announced. But, it seems like the coach knows what he is doing, via The REF.

“Very cerebral. Consistent, same guy every day. He puts the work in. He's just a fantastic teammate. Very highly recruited. Very well thought of. But there’s no entitlement whatsoever. With Jackson, he has got the instincts that you want him to have. The poise whether he's built to climb in the pocket,” Brent Venables said as he was pumping up Oklahoma football's Jackson Arnold.

The freshman out of the Oklahoma football program had duties passed over to him immediately. Dillon Gabriel had already made his move to Dan Lanning's Oregon squad. That left him to inherit the role of starting quarterback.

However, this move does not come without merit. More than the dedication he has shown before the Alamo Bowl, Arnold has proven that he is worth the trust. 75% of the passes that he launched throughout the season were completed. His presence for the Oklahoma football team was also big when they needed a win over BYU.

The Arizona football team is a different beast when it comes to bowl season. But, this move does prepare them for what the future holds.
