The Orioles make the trip to Los Angeles to face the Angels. These two teams are headed in opposite directions with the Orioles playing like one of the best teams in the MLB, while the Angels are slumping and are on a current losing streak. Our MLB odds series has our Orioles-Angels prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.

The Orioles are red hot entering this game with a 15-7 record and seven wins in eight games. They are a top-five offense behind the plate so far this season and their pitching has been ranked in the top half of the league up to this point too. The Orioles have so much young talent behind the plate with Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, and Ryan Mountcastle making up the bulk of it, but there's even more behind them. They improved their pitching this past offseason by adding Corbin Burnes to go with Grayson Rodriguez, but it still needs work. The Orioles were the best team in the AL last season and they somehow improved heading into this season.

The Angels are struggling this season with a 9-14 record and they enter this game on a five-game losing streak after losing the first game in this series. Losing Shohei Ohtani seems to have sent the Angels spiraling this season. They are ranked near the bottom of the MLB in both their pitching and offense behind the plate. Taylor Ward, Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon have tried to lead a struggling offense. On the mound, Tyler Anderson and Reid Detmers have played well for a unit that has just been bad to start the year. The Angels have a massive challenge in this game and series against the Orioles despite it being at home.

Why The Orioles Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Orioles are going with Dean Kremer on the mound and he has a 0-2 record, a 4.91 ERA, and a 1.14 WHIP. Through 22 innings, he has allowed 15 runs on 20 hits with five home runs and five balls. He also has 17 total strikeouts up to this point. The Orioles are 1-3 in all of his appearances up to this point in the season. In his last start, he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Last season, Kremer was decent with a 13-5 record, a 4.12 ERA, and a 1.31 WHIP. Kremer has been inconsistent in his career and it's been no different this year, but the Angels offense might be the perfect cure for his inconsistency.

The Orioles' offense has been one of the best in the MLB. They are 4th in team batting average at .261 after finishing last season with a .259 batting average which was also top five in the MLB. The offense is led by Ryan Mountcastle, Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, and Adley Rutschman in most of the batting categories. Mountcastle leads in batting average at .324 and in OBP at .388. Henderson leads in six home runs, Westburg leads in 18 RBI, and Rutschman leads in total hits at 27. The Orioles' offense can come in waves, but the Angels are putting one of their better pitchers on the mound in Tyler Anderson, making this an interesting matchup.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Angels are putting Tyler Anderson on the mound where he has a 2-2 record, a 1.42 ERA, and a 0.95 WHIP up to this point in the season. Through 25.1 innings, he has allowed five runs on 15 hits with three home runs, nine walks, and a total of 14 strikeouts. In his four appearances this season, the Angels have gone 2-2. In his last start, Anderson pitched seven innings where he allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in a loss. Last season, Anderson struggled with a 6-6 record, a 5.43 ERA, and a 1.49 WHIP. Anderson's fast start this season makes this matchup against the Orioles that much more interesting.

The Angels' offense has struggled this season. They are 17th in team batting average at .237 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward in most of the batting stats. O'Hoppe leads in batting average at .318 and in OBP at .384. Taylor Ward leads in RBI at 21 and in total hits at 26, while Mike Trout leads with eight home runs up to this point in the season. This will be a tough matchup because of how much the Orioles have improved on the mound, but Kremer still has his inconsistencies.

Final Orioles-Angels Prediction & Pick

The firepower in this game is all on the Orioles' side because their offense can match up with anyone. The issue comes on the mound where Kremer has been inconsistent for Baltimore, while Anderson has started out red-hot for the Angels. That one matchup is going to keep this game close for the Angels. I would still say the Orioles win this game because they are playing better overall, but Anderson keeps this game close and the Angels cover mainly because of him.
