Why The Orioles Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Orioles come into this series with a 47-25 record and lost the first game in this series and it broke a two-game winning streak. Their offense has jumped into the top 10, while their pitching is the second-best in the MLB. The Orioles have so much young talent behind the plate with Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, Cedric Mullins, Colton Cowser, and Ryan Mountcastle making up the bulk of it. They improved their pitching this past offseason by adding Corbin Burnes to go with Grayson Rodriguez, Cole Irvin, Kyle Bradish, and Albert Suarez. The Orioles were the best team in the AL last season and improved this season, at least on paper.

The Orioles are starting Cole Irvin on the mound and he has a 6-3 record, a 3.03 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP. Through 68.1 innings, he has allowed 27 runs on 71 hits with 13 walks and 51 strikeouts up to this point in the season. The Orioles are 9-4 in his 13 appearances this season. Irvin has been great in one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB. He still has a difficult matchup against one of the best offenses in the MLB with the Yankees behind the plate.

The Orioles' offense has been one of the best in the MLB and has made a jump back into the top 10 of the MLB. They are 10th in team batting average at .249 after finishing last season at .259. The offense is led by Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson leads the way in most batting categories. Adley Rutschman leads the way in batting average at .292, in 53 RBI, and in total hits at 82. Then, Henderson leads the way in home runs at 22 and OBP at .368. They get a very difficult matchup against Gil on the mound and how red-hot he has been for the Yankees.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the MLB with a 51-24 record. They are in the running for the best team in the MLB. They won the first game in this series and broke a two-game losing streak. Their bats have been great and their pitching is the best in the league. Juan Soto is a huge difference maker and an MVP-caliber player who was added to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of at least good to great on the mound.

The Yankees are starting Luis Gil on the mound where he has a 9-1 record, a 2.03 ERA, and a 0.98 WHIP. Gil has allowed 19 runs on 39 hits with 39 walks and 96 strikeouts through 80 innings. He has started in 14 games and the Yankees have gone 12-2 in those games. Gil is the best pitcher for the Yankees currently and is going to be a massive challenge for this Orioles offense, even with all their depth.

The biggest key for the Yankees is their offense. They are ranked eighth in the MLB currently in team batting average at .252 which is a massive improvement after struggling to .227 last season. Juan Soto has been a huge key player, leading in almost every batting category next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .313, in OBP at .436, and in total hits at 82. Judge then leads in home runs at 26 and in RBI at 64. This offense has a difficult matchup against Cole Irvin for Baltimore because he has been a big part of one of the best staffs in the league in Baltimore.

Final Orioles-Yankees Prediction & Pick

This is a huge matchup in the AL because both are fighting for the title of the best team in the MLB. Irvin and Gil are going to make this a big pitching duel and slow down each offense. This should be close and with the Orioles already losing one game in this series, expect them to cover and win on the road in New York thanks to Irvin and all of the depth they have on offense.
