The Indiana Pacers just can't seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries this season. Thursday's injury report only served to worsen the nightmare season encapsulating Rick Carlisle's squad.

According to Pacers reporter Scott Agness, Carlisle informed the media that point guard T.J. McConnell is expected to be out “a while” with a wrist injury.

This is a big blow to a Pacers team that is already without Justin Holiday and T.J. Warren. McConnell injured his right shooting wrist during Indiana's 114-111 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. He exited the game after logging just three minutes on the court, resulting in increased minutes for Brad Wanamaker. McConnell didn't register a single counting stat during his brief appearance on Wednesday.

McConnell has been a key piece for Indiana this season, averaging 8.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.3 rebounds across 24.8 minutes per game. He had yet to miss a game for Indy in 2021-22, but he'll now join the laundry list of players who have been sidelined with various ailments.

Carlisle didn't provide a full update on the extent of McConnell's injury, but the Pacers head coach did suggest it would be “weeks” rather than “days” until he's back in action.

Following Wednesday's loss to Atlanta, the Pacers find themselves at 9-15 and in 13th place in the Eastern Conference. The team has lost seven of its last 10 games, and the injury to McConnell only stands to make this season harder to turn around.
