Over the course of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' tenure as a guest host on the iconic game show “Jeopardy!”, fans and media alike heaped praise on Rodgers for his professionalism, dry humor, and witty remarks, making him at one point a serious candidate to eventually become the permanent host, following the tragic death of longtime host Alex Trebek. Rodgers, too, expressed his desire to eventually host the show once time permitted, his dream has been shattered, according to Variety. Per their report:

“Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent host of the venerable quiz show, taking the reins of the syndicated powerhouse that was fronted by Alex Trebek for 36 years.

Richards has plenty of previous experience, as he hosted “The Pyramid” and “Divided”, two gameshow series that also aired on Sony Pictures' GSN.

While Richards is surely a qualified candidate, the sports world, and even much of the “Jeopardy!” community, would have liked to see Aaron Rodgers continue on as host. He's an obsessive learner who even won “Celebrity Jeopardy!” when he appeared on the show back in 2015. There's no doubt that Rodgers would continue to steadily improve on his hosting skills and become a top-notch professional at it if given the time.

Though Rodgers has been at the center of a lot of drama with the Packers' organization throughout this past offseason, there is no question about his loyalty to the team and the city of Green Bay as a whole. From riding the bench as Brett Favre's backup for multiple years, to leading the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2011, to the years since of consistent, MVP-caliber play despite poor defenses, he is one of the best things to ever happen to the city.
