Aaron Rodgers gave the Green Bay faithful another reason to be happy shortly after leading the Packers to an incredible come-from-behind win over the Chicago Bears.

Rodgers had a simple response to Michele Tafoya of NBC Sports’ question about his availability for Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings: “I’m playing next week.”

Rodgers had be carted off in the first half after suffering a leg injury during a sack. However, he was able to return in the second half and delivered a performance for the ages. He threw three touchdown passes after halftime, including the go-ahead, 75-yard score to Randall Cobb late in the fourth quarter to give the Packers the improbable 24-23 win after going down 20-0.

It’s obviously a promising sign that Rodgers was not only able to come back and play in the second half against the Bears, but that he was able to play so well. The mere fact that the Packers medical staff signed off on bringing him back seems to indicate that his injury as serious as initially feared.

But while Rodgers seems confident in his ability to suit up for Week 2, the Packers will still take every precaution and wait for tests just to make sure that their star quarterback is indeed capable of playing.

Even though next week’s matchup against the Vikings is another huge rivalry game with potential implications for the division race, the Packers should still take a long-term view of Rodgers’ health and err on the side of caution if there is any doubt about his availability.

But if the tests come out clean and Rodgers is indeed good to go as he says he will be, the Packers should like their chances of going 2-0 to start the season.
