Through his first 13 seasons in the league (10 as the starter) with the Green Bay Packers, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers have been the centerpiece of the puzzle for the franchise for much of that time.

His long-term future with the organization has once again become a topic of discussion with the contract extension talks being a prevalent component this offseason in Green Bay. Rodgers touched upon it while speaking at the Wisconsin High School Sports award show that was held at Lambeau Field that he made it clear that he wants to spend his entire career on his terms with the Packers.

“It's sustained greatness that what's drives me. It's to be the best and to be able to choose when I'm done playing. I think as you have seen here recently with Jordy [Nelson] but even if you go back a few years whether it's Julius Peppers or AJ Hawk, John Kuhn or Brett Favre. The fairytale ending of starting a career and ending it with the same organization rarely happens. That's kind of my goal is to be able to be indispensible to this organization into my 40s to where they got to keep me around.”

Rodgers has repeatedly made it clear throughout the process that he wants to stay in Green Bay for however much longer he wants to continue playing into his 40s in a similar manner compared to the likes of Favre and currently Tom Brady. However, his goal is to continue to prove on the field that he can play at a high level even at that stage of his career to where he can dictate his future in the NFL.

It is quite a difficult task to accomplish given that it requires a tremendous amount of commitment to keep his body up for the physical pounding that comes with the game. Aside from the broken collarbone, Rodgers has proven that he is quite durable and still playing at an elite level at the age of 34.

If there is anything to take away at this point is that he wants to retire a Packer and still has the strong desire to play several more years with the organization. It may just simply be a matter of time before a new lucrative extension is worked out to help him reach those aspirations.
