It's been a strange week for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. An explosive report published in Bleacher Report detailed everything that went wrong during the Mike McCarthy era, and it was not kind to Rodgers.

The article by Ty Dunne portrayed Rodgers as somewhat of a selfish diva. Some former teammates questioned his leadership abilities, but at the same time other former teammates spoke up forcefully in his defense. Now, he's getting even more support from a former Packers legend.

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre had high praise for Rodgers in a recent interview with TMZ, calling him “the best player in the game.” Favre was very complimentary of Rodgers, but he also agreed with the crux of the Bleacher Report article, which was that the Rodgers/McCarthy duo underachieved relative to the teams that they had.

“I just feel they should have won more,” Favre explained. “They were that good.”

Favre also had some advice for new Packers coach Matt LaFleur, cautioning him that “any coach that will attempt to coach him has to tread lightly because you don't want to take away what he does so well — which is a lot of good things — and handcuff him.”

Favre said that Rodgers is now reaching the point in his career where he can identify with what Favre went through late in his own.

“He's really at the stage now where I was when he came into Green Bay … and now he sorta sees why I did the things that I did and was more reclusive than younger players.”

This will be a pivotal season for the Packers, and it'll be very interesting to see how Rodgers will respond to all the off-field heat. If this awoke something in Rodgers and fired him up, the rest of the league should watch out.
