The first two seasons of DeShone Kizer's NFL career have not exactly gone according to plan.

Kizer, who played his collegiate football at the University of Notre Dame, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round (52nd pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He went on to start 15 games for the Browns during his rookie campaign, but had a dreadful year, throwing for 2,894 yards and 11 touchdowns while leading the NFL with 22 interceptions. He also completed just 53.6 percent of his passes and posted a passer rating of 60.5.

The Browns then traded Kizer to the Green Bay Packers in March 2018, and he went on to serve as Aaron Rodgers' backup this past season. But Kizer doesn't seem himself as a backup for long.

He seems himself as much more than that:

“I don’t see myself as Aaron Rodgers’ backup for the final era of his career,” said Kizer, according to Jim Owczarski of The Milwakee Journal Sentinel. “I see myself as a future Super Bowl MVP. That’s the goal that I want to head toward. That’s the level I want to play at. Therefore, if I’m competing and focused in on the backup competition, then once again, I’m limiting myself.”

People will likely mock Kizer for that statement, as he has not even proven he can be a reliable backup at this point, let alone a Super Bowl MVP. However, it's great that he has confidence in himself, and we shouldn't expect a professional athlete to say anything less.
