The Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers are holding joint practices this week ahead of their Week 1 preseason game on Thursday. In their first practice, tempers flared and Bill O'Brien removed Lonnie Johnson—describing it as not a “big deal.”

On the contrary, Green Bay wasn't happy with how Lonnie Johnson handled himself during the joint practice. Things got chippy when Johnson delivered a massive hit on Jace Sternberger and stood over the Packers tight end.

He would also make an unnecessary hit on wide receiver Trevor Davis during special teams work. The hit on Davis was the final straw as O'Brien sent him to the locker room.

Among the players on the Packers who were disappointed in Johnson's actions was Davante Adams.

“That was unnecessary,” Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. “You’ve got plenty of time for that. You can do it in the games and you get fined. Be a coward when you do stuff like that in practice, it’s not a good look. We take care of each other up here. I don’t know how they practice, I don’t know what they do over there, but there’s consequences for stuff like that.”

The Texans drafted Johnson in the second round of this year's draft out of Kentucky. As much as they want intensity from their rookie cornerback, they don't want him making boneheaded plays that could cost the team.

O'Brien likely spoke to Johnson ahead of the team's second joint practice with the Packers on Tuesday. Matt LaFleur and the Packers are hoping for fewer avoidable hits when they take the practice field with the Texans again.
