The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic are only expected to be amplified leading up to the 2020 NFL season. Regardless, it seems the Green Bay Packers are holding out hope that fans will be in attendance this year.

The Packers have kept fans optimistic about a return to action by sending season-ticket holders masks with the team logo on them. The team announced in a statement that they will usher in some safety protocols at Lambeau Field:

“At this time, the team is preparing to have fans in attendance with new policies and safety measures to allow for appropriate social distancing, which will require the stadium’s seating capacity to be significantly reduced,” the team’s statement said. “Face coverings also will be required, and other necessary precautions will be in place. As a result, the special experience to which fans are accustomed at Lambeau Field will look and feel very different.”

The NFL has granted teams a certain amount of autonomy when it comes to establishing their own guidelines for training camp at the end of the month. This includes being able to limit the essential personnel that is allowed to be at the practice facilities.

Although the Packers are seemingly doubling down on health protocols, it remains to be seen if it will be enough to keep the 2020 campaign going as planned. After all, m the statement adds that all of this could be subject to change in the event that the NFL's front office opts to hand down further restrictions.

Fans being able to attend games may be far-fetched given the recent spike in the positive number of confirmed cases throughout the nation.
