The Green Bay Packers are set to interview New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for their head coaching vacancy on Friday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Packers have already interviewed veterans Jim Caldwell and Chuck Pagano for the head coaching job. They’ve also requested interviews with several other candidates, including McDaniels’ Patriots colleague, Brian Flores.

McDaniels and the Patriots have a first-round bye this week after clinching the No. 2 seed in the AFC with a Week 17 win over the Jets.

McDaniels has been one of the biggest names linked with the Packers job. His offensive prowess and experience working with a veteran quarterback are seen as qualities that could get Aaron Rodgers and co. back on track after a disappointing season.

McDaniels hasn’t been a head coach since his two seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2009-10. After going 8-8 and reaching the playoffs in his first season, they went just 3-9 and was fired.

McDaniels was all set to take the Indianapolis Colts’ head coaching job last offseason, but he infamously changed his mind at the last minute. The Colts hired Frank Reich to be their head coach.

The Packers are desperate to get back to the playoffs after missing out in each of Mike McCarthy’s last two years in charge. McCarthy’s relationship with Rodgers had degraded significantly this season, which factored into the offense’s struggles.

McDaniels’ potential relationship with Rodgers will likely be a key talking point during his interview and could make or break whether the Packers decide to make him their next head coach.
