There were eight coaching changes during the offseason and those coaches made their regular season debut in Week 1. Among them, only Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur was able to secure a victory for his team in Week 1.

In comparison, the other seven coaches finished Week 1 with a 0-6-1 record in their coaching debuts. LaFleur began the week by defeating the Chicago Bears in a defensive-oriented game on Thursday Night Football that the Packers took by a final score of 10-3.

Following him, the rest of the new head coaches got off to a shaky start on Sunday, beginning with Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins. Flores and the Dolphins were unable to contain Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens as they lost the game by the score of 59-10.

Aside from him, Freddie Kitchens and Bruce Arians both suffered double-digit losses in the first week of the 2019 season. At the same time, Adam Gase and Zac Taylor both were part of narrow one-point losses in Week 1. Vic Fangio ended the week with a 24-16 loss to the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football.

The lone tie that came in Week 1 came from the Arizona Cardinals and the Detroit Lions. In that game, rookie head coach Kliff Kingsbury looked to be in for a blowout loss in the first half.

On the contrary, rookie quarterback Kyler Murray was able to bounce back in the second half with an impressive comeback performance. Murray ended up throwing for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter that put Arizona in a position to win the game.

Unfortunately, neither the Cardinals and Lions could do enough in overtime to avoid the dreaded tie. Regardless, seven of the new head coaches in the NFL will be looking for their first win with their current team in Week 2.
