The Green Bay Packers had a 2018 season they'd like to forget, but now they have a new head coach to help them rebound in 2019. Matt LaFleur is a young, innovative head coach who brings a lot of promise for a talented Green Bay roster. Former head coach Mike McCarthy gave LaFleur some advice ahead of next season when talking to ESPN's Dave Demovsky.

“Matt LaFleur. Totally embrace the Green Bay community with your family,” McCarthy said. “It's a phenomenal place to live. It's a phenomenal place to raise a family. You know that, Rob. Heck, coach your ass off, have fun and enjoy the honor because it goes fast. Enjoy the honor of being the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. Make the program your own. That's very important. You were hired here for a very good reason; don't get too far away from that. You have a great group of men in that locker room. I think they're special, and they'll work their butts for you.”

Unfortunately, Mike McCarthy will not get to oversee the revamped Packers take form and rebound next season, but he did pass on a vote of confidence to Matt LaFleur. After many years of coaching Green Bay, McCarthy is sitting this season out to weigh out his options. It's likely McCarthy won't be unemployed for long, but for now he'll have to look on from a distance and watch his former team do its best to return to the postseason in 2019.
