There has been a significant amount of scrutiny on Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers since he suffered a knee injury that nearly knocked him out of the season opener against the Chicago Bears.

The conversation has now shifted to Saturday being a big indicator of his status for Week 2 action against the Minnesota Vikings, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

“He could play with no reps,” McCarthy added. “We've established that point some time ago in his career. So I think it's no different. You'd like to walk off the field Saturday and have your plan set, but this is the National Football League, things happen. Guys get sick on Saturday, too. that's all part of our process where we work the practice-squad guys in and everything. So we'll be ready for anything, but I know he wants to play. So we'll see how it goes.”

Throughout the entire process, Rodgers has voiced nothing both confidence about his health with the notion that he will play on Sunday afternoon. However, there has been some growing concern about that due to him not being in practice and getting rehab work instead.

These recent comments from McCarthy do show that the team wants Rodgers to get a practice under his belt before facing the Vikings. However, this doesn't appear to be completely tied to the 34-year-old being able to play in a huge NFC North divisional battle.

If Rodgers doesn't get the green light, it appears that the Packers are more than comfortable in turning to second-year quarterback DeShon Kizer to step in with the spot start.
