The Green Bay Packers raised a lot of eyebrows when they opted to take Utah State quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick of the NFL Draft late last month.

Using a first-round pick on a quarterback when you have Aaron Rodgers and a gaping hole at wide receiver? It's certainly a strange decision, but the Packers are no strangers to making such moves.

Remember: back in 2005, Green Bay selected Rodgers in the first round when Brett Favre was still under center. Favre ended up spending three more seasons with the Packers before Rodgers finally took the reins in 2008.

For that reason, an NFC executive believes that Rodgers will have some empathy for Love given how similar the two situations are. But on the other side of the coin, the executive surmised that the 36-year-old Rodgers may play for quite a bit longer:

“Knowing Aaron, he'll probably play another six years now,” said the executive, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. “He'll never retire.”

Funny enough, Favre ended up playing six more seasons himself after Green Bay took Rodgers, spending those aforementioned three years with the Packers, a lone campaign with the New York Jets and a couple of seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Could Rodgers follow the same trajectory?

The future Hall-of-Famer is under contract with the Packers through 2023, but some have speculated that Green Bay could potentially trade him before his deal expires.

Obviously, much of that will depend on how Rodgers plays in 2020. The wily veteran has shown signs of a decline over the last couple of years, so if that continues into next season, things will get interesting.
