The Green Bay Packers recently signed Kenny Clark to a multi-year extension and now they've turned their attention to another key contributor on their roster. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, signing Aaron Jones to a long-term deal is a “priority” for the Packers.

There is a slew of running backs from the 2017 NFL Draft that are looking for extensions from their respective teams. While Jones was a fifth-round pick back in 2017, he's arguably been one of the best running backs from a loaded class of rushers.

Just a season ago, Jones rushed for a career-high 1,084 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns for the Packers. At the same time, he contributed 49 receptions for 474 yards and another three receiving touchdowns.

Seeing that Green Bay wants to run the ball more under Matt LaFleur, Jones is a crucial piece to the offense moving forward. Of course, the selection of AJ Dillon early in the 2020 NFL Draft doesn't exactly express confidence in Jones being a workhorse back for years to come. However, the Packers would be wise to give the fourth-year runner a heavy workload with Dillon being an option when Jones needs a breather.

There's no doubt that Jones is a valuable piece in their offense due to his production on the ground. And there's an argument to be had that Jones is Green Bay's second-best receiving option behind Davante Adams. He finished second on the Packers in receptions and receiving yards in 2019.

As Aaron Rodgers continues to age, it's evident the Packers want to deploy a run-oriented offense. Therefore, it's no surprise that Green Bay wants to make signing Jones a priority in the near future.
