As the Green Bay Packers prepare to open up their search for a new head coach, the options seem to be endless. Mike McCarthy's firing was a bit abrupt, but the Packers knew that change was needed. Now, the focus has shifted to finding a new coach that can come in and fit perfectly alongside Aaron Rodgers.

Over the past couple of seasons, the Packers' offense has become stagnant. That is part of the reason that many believe the Packers will hire an offensive-minded head coach.

Despite that belief, there are some who think Green Bay could go the exact opposite direction.

CBS Sports suggested that the Packers could look into hiring Chicago Bears' defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to be their head coach.

It's a little silly not to put at least one defensive mind on here, especially in a situation where, like with Harbaugh, the coach in question could hire a smart offensive mind to run the offense and work with Aaron Rodgers. Fangio was retained by Matt Nagy and the Bears are lucky — their defense has been one of the best in football. Would he be willing to jump within the division for a shot at a head coaching gig? Quite possibly. And hiring him away has the two-fold effect of helping the Packers and hurting the Bears. This would be one of those situations where Fangio would find a guy like Kliff Kingsbury and let he and Rodgers do what they do on offense; there wouldn't be any play-calling concerns with Fangio and Rodgers.

Thinking about a pairing of Fangio and Kliff Kingsbury should excite the Packers' fan base. Fangio is one of the most dominant defensive coaches in the entire NFL, which is still a need. Kingsbury making the jump to the NFL and bringing his unique offensive playbook would be a shot in the arm for Rodgers and the offense.

Fangio has never been an NFL head coach. He has always been one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the league, but that has not turned into anything else.

No matter which direction the Packers decide to go, they cannot afford to miss. Rodgers is 34 years old and his prime is quickly passing Green Bay by.

Even though Fangio may not be the attractive name, he could very well be the right guy for Green Bay.
