The San Diego Padres might be experiencing a slump after their Philadelphia Phillies series. They may have won their last game with a 5-2 scoreline but only winning four out of their last 10 matchups has not been helpful. Mike Shildt really needs Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove to return. Will they be going back to the squad before this four-game clash against the Milwaukee Brewers?

Mike Shildt has a lot of optimism about two of his stars in the Padres system making a return. The manager outlined that they want to have a strong homestand against the Brewers but there will be someone who probably won't be with them just yet, Yu Darvish. Shildt noted how the pitcher has been doing in his latest statement, via 97.3 The Fan.

“The next he'll pitch will be with us in the starting position. We're not sure of the day yet, we're going to see how he recovers from yesterday. Our reports that initially came out of it are A) healthy and B) stuff was really good. So, that was encouraging. We're just trying to see where we're going to slide him in,” Mike Shildt declared.

Darvish is enduring some tightness in his left groin. The Padres pitcher did have a rehabilitation stint with their High-A affiliate where he threw 49 pitches. Throughout 3 1/3 innings, he racked up six runs. While this is not the best production out of him, he already seems healthy. So, an expected return could be when the Padres face the Washington Nationals after their homestand clash with the Brewers.

The pitcher has not seen action in the majors since he went down in their game against the Miami Marlins. This activation from the IL could mean that the Padres would be able to make a run in the coming games.

Padres' situation with Joe Musgrove

It was not only Darvish that Shildt gave an update about. Musgrove has been suffering from an inflammation on his right elbow. Recent reports have unveiled that this was all because he has a bone spur which was causing all of this discomfort. Now, it looks like his injury recovery journey started and a return to the Padres system could be expected by the latter half of August.

“Joe's going to start doing plays like ball catch in the next couple of days and then we'll see. So, there's nothing really new with Joe,” the Padres manager stated.

Joe Musgrove threw plyometric balls in his latest workout with the Padres. Despite feeling good about his situation already, the staff along with the squad's medical team might want to err on the side of caution because the soreness that he is feeling resides in his right triceps. Having to throw while experiencing that can surely cause a lot of damage to one's body and even in their career for the long-term.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is also experiencing some tightness in his right quad and outlined that he is not feeling very good. So, Shildt and the Padres might also have to take a look at that prior to their games against the Brewers. The injury bug has been tough for this NL West team.
