This past week, Carolina Panthers' legend Cam Newton returned to his former team on a one-year deal worth up to $10 million dollars. With $4.5 million dollars guaranteed, along with a $1.5 million dollar signing bonus, the quarterback could still earn up to $4 million dollars through performance incentives.

Newton joins a Panthers team lacking depth at the quarterback position. Sam Darnold, the prior starter, recently suffered a shoulder injury likely to put him out for around four to six weeks. The best available quarterback on the market, the former number one overall pick from Auburn University looks not only to return to his MVP form, but also to aid a Carolina roster looking to possibly push for a playoff spot.

Yet the Panthers' plans for Newton in this upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals may have minimal usage of recent signee. With only one practice under his belt, the team looks to give him a small role overall, or to insert him in certain plays that are specifically designed. The true hope is for Newton to get caught up on all plays and quickly develop chemistry with teammates so that he could be the starter next week.

Though Carolina has not given up on Darnold, Cam Newton looks to be the starting quarterback the rest of the season. With his help, 4-5 Panthers look to make a possible push for a playoff spot in a tight NFC South.
