Carolina Panthers linebacker Damien Wilson has found himself in hot water with the law after he was arrested last week in Frisco, Texas for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Wilson, who just signed with the Panthers in March as a free agent, is facing a charge of assault with the bodily injury of a family member but his attorney, Toby Shook, claims the allegations are false.

Per ESPN:

“Damien Wilson did not commit any type of assault,” Shook told the newspaper. “We look forward to all the facts coming out so his name can be cleared.”

The Panthers were apparently aware of Wilson's arrest but have yet to make any decision on his future with the team. Wilson played for the Dallas Cowboys for four seasons after getting drafted in 2015. He went on to suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons as well, winning a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes and Co. in 2019. Wilson played for the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

His ex-girlfriend, Ryan Sokolosky, said the Panthers linebacker showed up at her apartment intoxicated and threatened to kill her with a tire iron, and then also destroyed her computer. Wilson even tried hitting her with his car before eventually leaving.

This isn't the first legal trouble for Damien Wilson, either. In 2017, he had a rifle outside of a soccer venue and was threatening people. He was ultimately arrested for aggravated assault but never indicted.
