Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been plagued by injuries over the past couple of seasons and is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite him being out, Greg Olsen spoke about Newton's toughness.

Not many have gotten to be close with Newton, but Olsen has been with the larger-than-life quarterback since Newton was selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. From that moment on, the two have built a special connection on and off the field.

As for Newton, injuries have begun to catch up to the Panthers quarterback in recent years. The worst of it began in 2018 after the electric quarterback took a nasty hit from T.J. Watt in a Week 10 bout against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After the play, Newton began to have issues with his throwing shoulder and it continued to linger for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, it got to the point to where Ron Rivera was forced to bench his starting quarterback.

Newton missed the final two games of the 2018 season and spent the entire offseason recovering from shoulder surgery. Then, after Newton made his return to the field in the preseason, he sustained a foot injury that sidelined him for nearly a month.

Now, he seems to have re-aggravated his foot injury and is expected to be out in Week 3. There are plenty of criticisms you can make on Newton but being tough is not one of them.

Over the course of his career, Newton has withstood plenty of huge hits from defenders. At the same time, he has spent countless hours getting his body right. Newton may not be the same quarterback he once was but his willpower should never come into question.
