The Carolina Panthers squared off with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8. With the 49ers already at 6-0 heading into the game, they clearly had to be on top of their game.

A fast start isn't what they got though. Instead, the Panthers found themselves down 27-5 in the third quarter.

In desperate need of a big play, the Panthers turned to Christian McCaffrey. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that the running back was up to the challenge.

McCaffrey took the handoff and ran 40 yards for a touchdown. No matter how good the San Francisco defense is, you had to see this coming. No one is going to keep the superstar running back contained for an entire game.

Sadly for McCaffrey and the Panthers though, this didn't change the momentum of the game. While it did get them a little bit closer, that didn't stick for long.

The 49ers scored 14 straight unanswered before the end of the third quarter. A 41-13 deficit heading into the fourth isn't exactly promising for the Panthers.

As indicated by the score, Week 8 wasn't a great game for many players on Carolina. However, McCaffrey did manage over 100 yards rushing through three quarters and added a touchdown as well as four receptions for 38 yards.

Christian McCaffrey's campaign to be considered the best running back in football continues to gain momentum. If nothing else, he's at least helping out a lot of fantasy teams this week as his weekly production continues to be through the roof.

That production doesn't appear to be helping the Panthers much in Week 8, but it did provide them one of their few highlights.
