Sony Michel may not be a household name yet, but to New England Patriots fans he has already proven himself to be a rising star. After being selected with No. 31 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Michel has already taken a huge role in the offense. He may not be a “workhorse” running back, but he has seen his role grow nearly each and every week.

Looking ahead to this week's key matchup between the Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid talked about New England's rookie running back. In an interview shared by 247 Sports, Reid talked about Michel and how good of a pick he thinks the Patriots made by taking him.

“Yeah, listen, I think it was a great pick. I think he runs hard, aggressive, he can catch the football, he’s a smart kid, with them when he came out, and he’s a good football player.”

James White, another talented Patriots' running back, also talked about Michel.

“Well he's a guy who's willing to learn. He's working extremely hard. Like you said, he missed preseason so he missed those live reps but I've been saying the more he gets out there, the more confident he'll be and the more comfortable he'll be out there learning the plays, getting the feel for how defenses are going to play him and what not. I'm trying to help him as much as I can, not throw too much at him, but allow him to go out there and play with confidence. He's a good football player so he'll continue to get better and better.”

Throughout the first four games this season, Michel has carried the football 67 times for 294 yards and two touchdowns. He has also caught three passes for 18 yards.

Those numbers show a bit of the talent that Michel possesses. Last week against the Indianapolis Colts, Michel racked up 98 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He had an even bigger game against the Miami Dolphins the week before with 112 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

New England has one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game in Tom Brady. Adding a talent like Michel that can provide excellent production on the ground simply opens up the passing game even more.

Expect to see the Patriots continue giving Michel a heavier workload as the season moves forward. Michel has the potential to become a feature back for the Patriots long-term and is already being given that opportunity by head coach Bill Belichick.
