After 58 minutes of watching quarterback Mac Jones miss multiple throws, hold onto the ball for far too long, throw a back-breaking interception late in the 4th quarter, and do nothing at all to inspire any sort of confidence that he could competently handle an end-of-game two minute drill, Bill Belichick had officially seen enough. As he has many times before the last couple of years, Belichick yanked the Patriots 2021 1st Round pick for the now second-year back-up Bailey Zappe, and today he did so in the most crucial moment of New England's game in Germany versus the Indianapolis Colts.

After the game, Bill Belichick was asked about the decision to pull the plug on Mac Jones and partake in “Zappe Hour,” and predictably, he provided a trademark short and to-the-point, grumpy Belichick answer:

The Mac Jones thing continues to bewilder me. After a 2021 campaign where he looked like arguably the best rookie quarterback in a highly touted class (10-7 as the starter with 22 touchdowns for the run-heavy Pats), Jones has absolutely cratered since then, going 8-15 in his 23 starts, with 24 touchdowns, 23 turnovers, and a plummeting passer rating. It's hard to imagine that the Patriots could possibly entertain the idea of bringing Mac Jones back next season, and it'll be interesting to see if Belichick and offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien opt to keep Jones on the bench to start Bailey Zappe, or perhaps even Malik Cunningham, the rest of the season.

A bit of advice… don't expect Bill Belichick to elaborate too much on the decision whenever that decision comes.
