Mac Jones or Cam Newton? That's the burning question plaguing New England Patriots fans as the start of the season looms large.  If you ask Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, he claims the answer is still anybody's guess.

The Patriots coach addressed reporters after their preseason finale victory over the New York Giants.

“No, we still have a lot of decisions to make,” Belichick claimed.

But more than likely, Belichick is simply being his usually cryptic self while dragging out his selection for as long as humanly possible. It's a safe bet, however, that even his two top quarterbacks don't know who's starting for the Patriots in Week 1, either.

Mac Jones was vocal about his mindset given the indecision (or more likely secrecy) for the QB1 role. He's preparing like the job is his, not because of any expectation but rather that's just how he's always done it.

Via ESPN's Mike Reiss:

“Like I always say, I'm focused on today. I think there's a lot of stuff I can clean up. I held the ball a little too long at some points today. I'll work on that … but I'm here to play any role I can play, help in any way I can, and I'm going to be ready whenever my time comes,” said the Patriots rookie.

“I learned at a young age, just prepare like the starter. You don't have to be the starter, but prepare, get into your routine. That's something Coach talked about today. We're going to be in this stadium again [Sept. 19 against the New York Jets] and that's kind of what I did. That's how you can get into a flow.”

Despite the battle for the starting job between Mac Jones and Cam Newton, the two have reportedly had a solid relationship thus far. We'll see how their bond develops as the starting job gets handed off to start the season.
