When the New England Patriots elevated Malik Cunningham from the practice squad and signed him to a three-year deal, the expectations were they would experiment on how to utilize him as  a quarterback and wide receiver on the offense. For a team that is massively struggling to get to the end zone, it seemed to be a logical move.

Less than two weeks since signing him to a new deal, however, the Patriots abruptly put an end to the experiment and decided to waive Cunningham, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

No reason for the Patriots' decision to waive Cunningham has been revealed, so it sent the whole New England fanbase into utter confusion. After all, why would they show commitment to him by giving him a significant deal only to waive him later on? Not to mention that they could have simply promoted him from the practice squad in the first place instead of a new agreement.

Put simply, Patriots fans just can't understand the move.

“This team infuriates me,” one commenter replied on Pelissero's report on X.

Another surprised NFL fan  shared, “Here is a 3 year deal, now get out of here.”

“Yo what is they DOING over there,” one confused follower rhetorically asked. Another one had a similar sentiment, saying: “Didn’t he just sign?”

A fifth fan added, “What are they doing ? It was just to put pressure on Mac or? Lol.”

It remains to be seen what the Patriots are really planning to do. For what it's worth, they also released  two-time Super Bowl champion Trey Flowers. It might be indicative of a move New England is about to make, but until Bill Belichick and co. confirm it, all we can do is speculate.

With that said, fans might want to keep an eye on New England and the next moves they make.
