The NFL is likely to punish the New England Patriots for admitting to violating league policies last week, according to Mark Maske of The Washington Post. The league is contemplating disciple for infractions of game-day rules.

The Patriots admitted to violating league game-day policies last week when a staffed video crew shot footage of the Cincinnati Bengals' sideline in their loss to the Cleveland Browns. New England said the video crew unknowingly broke the rules while shooting a video for a feature on a scout. Coach Bill Belichick said that his team did not benefit from the video and did not know of it.

The Patriots will face the Bengals on Sunday.

It is unknown what type of penalty the Patriots will incur. Likely, they will face a fine in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and/or the removal of draft picks, which are most often later in the draft.

However, those penalties could be altered for the Patriots. New England is not new to having the league investigate for game-day rules, as they previously suffered penalties for SpyGate and DeflateGate. They were caught recording signals in 2007 for SpyGate and deflating footballs in 2014 and were heavily penalized for both.

According to Maske, the NFL's investigation into the matter is not yet complete, nor are penalties firmly set. The league is looking to do their due diligence on the polarizing topic. However, their investigations are expected to resume on Sunday and will continue throughout the week. The NFL is hopeful of getting a resolution soon.
