Things seem to keep getting worse for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. After suffering a 6-0 loss in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers, where the offense looked historically bad, the team lost one of its only bright spots on that side of the ball. The Rhamondre Stevenson injury update is that the running back will be out for a while.

“Tests showed that Patriots’ RB Rhamondre Stevenson suffered a high ankle sprain and he now is expected to miss, in the words of a source, ‘a few weeks.’,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday.

Stevenson is the Patriots’ leading rusher this season with 619 yards on 156 carries and four rushing touchdowns. He’s also the Patriots’ leading pass catcher with 38 receptions on 51 targets. His 238 receiving yards are fifth on the team.

With the latest Rhamondre Stevenson injury update, veteran back Ezekiel Elliott will now take the biggest share of the carries moving forward. After coming on for Stevenson in the Patriots' ugly Week 13 loss to the Chargers, Elliott now has 112 carries for 429 yards and two touchdowns.

No matter who is at running back for the Patriots, the truth remains that they are one of the worst teams in the league right now, and no personnel shakeups are going to change that. Bill Belichick’s move from Mac Jones to Bailey Zappe proved that.

New England does have several winnable games left on its schedule, though. The team gets the Pittsburgh Steelers without Kenny Pickett next week, then the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, followed by the only two teams they’ve beaten thus far, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.
