The New England Patriots have had a busy offseason as they hope to shake off the recent struggles these last few seasons. In the process, the front office decided to reward star running back, Rhamondre Stevenson with a new contract extension.

Rhamondre Stevenson officially signed a four-year $36 million contract extension with the Patriots, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. $17 million is fully guaranteed.

“Patriots and RB Rhamondre Stevenson reached agreement on a four-year extension for $36 million, including $17M fully guaranteed, per source.”

This is a smart decision for New England. Stevenson has proven to be a reliable option out of the backfield. Additionally. he'll provide some stability for the team's quarterback situation as Drake Maye develops into the eventual starting quarterback.

It'll be interesting to see how the Patriots play next season. As of now, it's not clear who the starting quarterback is. However, Maye will eventually be the starter at some point. In the meantime, the front office has done a solid job building a team everywhere else. Rhamondre Stevenson should continue to play a big role in this offense.

Alongside Stevenson is Antonio Gibson who the Patriots signed in the offseason. Gibson, who recently played for the Washington Commanders, is a great compliment to Rhamondre Stevenson. While Stevenson will mainly run the ball up the middle, Gibson can serve as a consistent option in the passing game out of the backfield.

The Patriots running back has had a roller coaster of a career so far. He looked good in his rookie campaign, broke out in year two, and then fell a bit flat in the 2023-24 season. Through three years in the NFL, Rhamondre Stevenson has totaled 2,265 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns.

But what's next for the Patriots and Rhamondre Stevenson? Now that Bill Belichick is out of the picture the franchise will move into a completely new era. We should expect Stevenson to play a big role moving forward while Drake Maye develops his game.

However, with Antonio Gibson on the roster as well, Stevenson may lose some work next season. Despite that, both running backs could be in for a big year as they both bring something different to the table. At the very least, Rhamondre Stevenson should be the top option when it comes to running the ball. Meanwhile, Gibson will likely take over as the top pass option out of the backfield.
