New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft recently gave some insight on the decision to hire Jared Mayo after the departure of longtime head coach Bill Belichick. He spoke on the importance of having trust in his next hire since he views the organization as a family. Coaching the Patriots isn't for everybody. There are high expectations and a bond that needs to be held with the front office that doesn't fit just any candidate.

“I think we’ve got someone very special who understands how to manage young people today,” said Kraft, per Myles Simmons at Pro Football Talk. “I mean, the world is different than 20 years ago — even 10 years ago. And in all our businesses, we try to create a culture that people want to stay with and be there long-term. And I think that Jerod has the makeup and the chemistry — and it’s genuine, what he has is genuine. Just think about how he got elected captain in his second year with us when we had tremendous veterans. And I think it went for seven years, he was captain in a tremendous period. And then he went out on his own in business to get a change.”

Kraft made sure to prioritize fit over glam. He stayed within the franchise and upgraded someone that individuals in the organization trusted. They have confidence that Mayo can move the Patriots forward into a new era of football, behind versatile offensive schemes and quick defensive reactions.

There's a new face as the head coach title, but not a new one to the building. The Patriots made sure to think of all possibilities in terms of how they could move forward with the pieces they had. Mayo is handed the keys to an organization that held one of the NFL's best dynasties in league history.
