One of the biggest problems the New England Patriots have faced this season is deciding who will fill the the starting left tackle position for the 2018-19 season. It looks like the Pats finally found their answer in Trent Brown.

“As you can see, he has some dynamic skills, and he's working hard to be a really good player on every down,” said offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia in an interview with Mike Reiss from ESPN.

Left tackle is a critical spot that most teams in the NFL fill with their most skilled lineman. The Patriots have a 41-year-old starting quarterback who needs all the blind side protection he can get. While Tom Brady has proven that he can still compete at a high level, the coaching staff wants to make sure they can maximize his protection as he edges toward the end of his professional football career.

The Patriots expect Brown to be an effective pass blocker with the ability to pull on run plays. His position requires a rare combination of size, strength, technique quickness and athleticism.

Brown started the season as the team's first option at left tackle, just ahead of this year's first-round draft pick Isaiah Wynn, who tore his Achilles earlier this year. This helped solidify Brown as the most reasonable option.

However, Brown hasn't gotten complacent. His willingness to continue to work hard and take advice from his coaching staff will allow him to grow as the season progresses. With Brown anchoring the left side, the Patriots look like the favorites to win the AFC East again this year.
