Back in his early high school days, Paul Pierce was named one of the best freshmen in the nation. He received multiple awards for his stellar play and his potential to play at a higher level.

However, even with the national attention he garnered that time, he never thought he could eventually become an NBA player. Only when he made it to the cover of Sports Illustrated did The Truth realize he can get there and make basketball his source of living.

As it turned out, the 39-year-old L.A. Clippers‘ forward is considered one of the best to ever play the game. He won a championship back in 2008 with the Boston Celtics and was named Finals MVP. Pierce also got selected as an All-Star 10 times in his illustrious career.

Prior to this season, he announced that this will be his last hurrah and now serves as the veteran mentor and locker room leader for his team. Once he hangs his sneakers for good, there will be no doubt he'll be enshrined in the Hall-of-Fame as soon as he becomes eligible.
