Jose Alvarado has been the NBA's best underdog stories this season. After going undrafted, the diminutive point guard has been one of the bright stars of the New Orleans Pelicans. He brings tenacious and creative defense to the table, as well as an uncanny ability to score when he needs to.

Jose Alvarado's exploits for the Pelicans have caught the attention of another “short king”, Isaiah Thomas. The former All-Star guard took to Twitter to express his pride after Alvarado lit up the Suns in the fourth quarter of Game 3.

Thomas knows a thing or two about succeeding in the NBA as a short point guard. Unlike Alvarado, though, Thomas made a name for himself as an offensive dynamo. He had the moxie to go up against NBA skyscrapers at the rim and finish in style. However, injuries eventually decimated Thomas' career, and he bounced from team to team in later years (including the Pelicans!).

Unfortunately for Alvarado and the Pelicans, Chris Paul was just too good for the Suns. The Point God once again delivered a master class in the clutch, nailing tough mid-range jumpers and dishing out beautiful passes to his teammates. That led to the Pelicans going down 1-2 in their first round series.

Hope is not lost yet for the Pelicans, though. They were inches away from scoring a victory today. Should they get a little luckier in their next games, they have a legitimate shot at tying the series before it goes back to Phoenix. They'll need a few more breaks to go their way.
