Over the last couple of seasons, Jose Alvarado has emerged as a key sixth man for the New Orleans Pelicans given the energy he brings each and every game. Alvarado has been vital to the Pelicans' success and is known for his pesky defensive instincts.

Unfortunately for the Pelicans, they will be without Alvarado to begin the 2023-24 season, as he is currently dealing with an ankle sprain. On Tuesday, the team announced that the guard continues to deal with discomfort in his right ankle and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Alvarado has instantly become a fan-favorite in New Orleans, yet injuries have become a concern for him. The 25-year-old missed the conclusion of the 2022-23 season and he also missed all of the preseason this year due to an ankle sprain.

In 61 total games last season, Alvarado averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the floor.

The Pelicans continue to be plagued by injuries, as health has stood in the way of them reaching their full potential through the years. All-Stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson both missed large chunks of time last season due to injuries and in addition to Jose Alvarado being injured, New Orleans is also set to be without Trey Murphy III after he suffered a meniscus tear during offseason workouts.

After posting a 42-40 record last season and losing in the play-in tournament, the Pelicans are looking to prove that they can be a real threat in the Western Conference. New Orleans is set to begin the 2023-24 season on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
