With New Orleans Pelicans centerpiece Anthony Davis recently signing with Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, the rumors of a potential exit for the 25-year-old star inevitably came into the picture. The fact that Paul also represents LeBron James has even made some speculate about Davis' intention to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers within the next couple of years.

However, super agent Paul himself was quick to downplay the reports and claimed that one does not always equal the other. This is via Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

“A star player switching agents sometimes can create the implication that he wants to change teams. Paul, who represents more than 20 NBA players, told ESPN that is not the case and he plans to meet with Pelicans officials soon.”

Not only did Paul deny rumors of an imminent exit for Davis, but he even went as far as implying that the five-time All-Star will be entering negotiations with his current team for an extension.

Davis is entering the third season of his five-year deal with the Pelicans, with the fifth and final year (2020-21 season) being a player option. With just two guaranteed seasons, now would be an ideal time for Davis and the Pelicans to begin discussing another extension deal.

For his part, this is more of a business move for Davis. Paul is one of the most prominent sports agents in the game today, and if it is in Davis' intentions to make as much money as he can from his next contract, then he has certainly hired the right man.
