With the recent passing of New Orleans Pelicans owner Tom Benson, a lot of questions have already emerged on what direction the team will take. It starts with who will take over the successful businessman’s place, and what his wife, Gayle Benson, plans to do with the team.

Now, there has been a report made that sheds more light to what can be expected from the Benson family soon. Mrs. Benson may most likely sell the Pelicans by next year, in order to pay the taxes of the New Orleans Saints, which they also own, according to Jason La Canfora of B-More Opinionated Podcast.

Tom Benson purchased the Pelicans back in 2012, and was credited for the team’s rise to prominence, along with the arrival of Anthony Davis. The team has been able to make the playoffs only once over that span, but are looking geared to make the postseason again this season. It has been made possible by the partnership of Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in their frontcourt, although the latter is already slated to miss the remainder of the season.

It will be very interesting to see how things will unfold for the Pelicans, as the rumored path Mrs. Benson will take shows that they may be prioritizing the Saints more at this point. However, with the Pelicans also earning well, especially being part of the NBA, she may not have a difficult time looking for a potential buyer as there could already be some individuals or groups already studying the possibility of owning an NBA team.
