PGA star and four-time major winner Brooks Koepka was outspoken against the rival LIV Golf league earlier this year, then joined several of his peers in bolting for the affluent association. Ahead of the rival league's second event on Thursday, Koepka was asked about his decision to join LIV Golf. Surprisingly, he said that it occurred after the US Open, where he criticized reporters of asking questions about the rival tour. Koepka explained the reasoning behind his decision to join LIV Golf, per ESPN.

“What I've had to go through the last two years on my knees, the pain, the rehab, all this stuff, you realize, you know, I need a little bit more time off,” Koepka said. “I'll be the first one to say it: It's not been an easy last couple of years, and I think having a little more breaks, a little more time at home to make sure I'm 100% before I go play in an event and don't feel like I'm forced to play right away [is good].”

Koepka said that his “opinion changed.” The PGA star went on to say that given his recent injury history, he felt that he could use “a little bit more time off.”

The LIV Golf schedule is easily more forgiving on the body, given that it features just seven regular season events and a Team Championship finale.

Koepka has dealt with knee, hip and wrist injuries just this year. Injuries aside, the exorbitant amount of money Koepka was likely paid by LIV Golf is a factor in the decision as well, whether the PGA star wants to admit it or not.
