Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win

Trea Turner is traveling with the team. However, he is still recovering from a hamstring injury, so others have had to step up. The offense remains good, ranking sixth in batting average and home runs and fourth in on-base percentage. Likewise, they are second in runs and seventh in on-base percentage.

Bryce Harper has been solid, batting .268 with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 35 runs. Similarly, he is hitting .261 with 36 home runs, 105 RBIs, and 112 runs over 177 games in his career against the Mets. Harper went 4 for 9 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs against the Mets earlier this season. Meanwhile, Kyle Schwarber is slugging like he always does. Schwarber is batting .231 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 44 runs. Also, he is hitting .262 with 58 hits, 17 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 42 runs over 64 games against the Mets.

Nick Castellanos has struggled, batting .214 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 44 runs. However, he has a career mark of .288 with 47 hits, seven home runs, 25 RBIs, and 17 runs over 44 games against the Mets. J.T. Realmuto is batting .266 with seven home runs, 20 RBIs, and 28 runs. Furthermore, he is hitting .273 with 129 hits, 13 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 57 runs over 133 games against the Mets in his career.

The Phillies will cover the spread if Suarez can recover from his injury and turn a gem in London. Then, they need the offense to give him some run support.

Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mets' offense has been average this season. So far, they are 15th in batting average and 13th in on-base percentage. New York also ranks 16th in runs, ninth in home runs, and 12th in slugging percentage. Ultimately, they have players with a lot of experience against the Phillies.

Pete Alonso is batting .238 with 14 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 36 runs. Likewise, he is hitting .244 with 75 hits, 15 home runs, 52 RBIs, and 43 runs over 82 games against the Phillies. Alonso has also struggled against Suarez. Unfortunately, he is only 1 for 15 with a double and an RBI against him. Francisco Lindor is batting .235 with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 35 runs. Furthermore, he is hitting just .229 with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and 39 runs over 58 games against Philadelphia. Lindor has also gone 3 for 13 with a home run and RBI against Suarez.

J.D. Martinez is batting .281 with five home runs, 15 RBIs, and 13 runs over 36 games with the Mets. Amazingly, he is hitting .304 with 34 hits, four home runs, 18 RBIs, and 15 runs over 32 games against the Phillies. Martinez is also 2 for 7 with a double and an RBI against Suarez. Meanwhile, Brandon Nimmo is batting just .222 with seven home runs, 31 RBIs, and 31 runs. Nimmo is also .251 with 78 hits, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 55 runs over 97 games against the Phillies. Also, he is 3 for 19 with an RBI against Suarez.

The Mets will cover the spread if their starting pitcher can find a way to avoid making mistakes against this dangerous lineup. Then, they need the offense to figure out Suarez.

Final Phillies-Mets Prediction & Pick

The Phillies are 44-19 and coming off a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. Likewise, the Mets are just as hot, coming off a sweep of the divisional rival Washington Nationals. But these teams could not be any different as one is the best team in the majors and the other is struggling. Now, both will meet in London for a two-game set. The Phillies have the elite pitcher on the mound and the better team overall. Plus, they are already 3-1 against the Mets this season. Expect the dominance to continue as the Phillies win and cover the spread.
