Since becoming the youngest MVP in NBA history with the Chicago Bulls in 2011, Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose has undergone four knee surgeries.

During his prime, Rose was the most athletic point guard in NBA history. Unfortunately, the torque and pressure Rose put on his joints ultimately led to his four knee injuries.

Now 31-years-old and wiser, Rose says he regrets not taking care of his body when he was younger. The former MVP spoke to Sean Highkin of Bleacher Report about how Chauncey Billups and Lamar Odom took care of their bodies during the 2010 FIBA tournament.

“Before games, I used to look at how Chauncey would take care of his body,” Derrick Rose says. “Lamar used to do his situp routine right before games, just working his body. I used to look at that like, ‘Man, these guys are on a whole other level.' I was a kid at the time, so I was like, ‘Man, I don't gotta do that right now. I can just go out there and dunk.'

“But things I overlooked when I was younger, I wish I would have done.”

Four knee surgeries later, Rose remains one of the quickest players in the NBA. The Chicago native has learned from his previous mistakes and now diligently takes care of his body.

Before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March, Rose was the best player for the Pistons. The three-time All-Star finished the campaign with averages of 18.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 50 games. Rose also shot 49.0 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from beyond the arc and 87.1 percent from the free-throw line.
