The Detroit Pistons selected Jaden Ivey with the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, snagging a player that was clearly high on the draft boards of many other teams. It only took a matter of minutes for trade rumors to emerge involving Ivey, with the Knicks, among other teams, reportedly expressing significant interest in the young guard.

The Knicks, who own the No. 11 pick in the draft, were rumored to be working on a deal that would see them draft Jalen Duren and trade him to the Pistons in a package for Ivey, per Steve Popper.

Despite the Knicks clearly being willing to make a move for Ivey, the Pistons have no intentions of moving the Purdue product. According to James Edwards, the Pistons have rebuffed offers for their prized rookie, meaning they likely have some big plans in store for the 20-year-old.

Knicks fans will surely be disappointed that they won't be getting their dream draft target in Ivey, but that didn't stop New York from making a splash in the first round. The Knicks traded No. 11 overall pick Ousmane Dieng to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for multiple first-round picks, quite possibly as a result of their failed attempts at bringing Ivey to the Big Apple. The Knicks and Pistons then agreed to a trade that sent Jalen Duran and Kemba Walker to Detroit in order to clear cap space in New York, meaning Detroit will be walking away from the first round with both Duran and Ivey, whom they ranked highly.

Last year at Purdue, Ivey averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. He knocked down 46% of his field goal attempts and shot 35.8% from 3-point range. He figures to pair nicely alongside his new teammates including the likes of Cade Cunningham, Hamadou Diallo, and Saddiq Bey, among others.
