Detroit Pistons team owner Tom Gores has made it clear that the team intends to keep Andre Drummond beyond this season.

Drummond, the NBA's leading rebounder last season, spent his entire seven-year career with the Pistons. He's averaged a double-double for an entire season since his sophomore year, and he's become a vital part of the franchise as they try to build a championship-contending team.

Last season, the Pistons were able to trade for Blake Griffin and they were able to make the playoffs as the eighth seed. Drummond had an impressive run in Detroit's first-round matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, and that is one of the main reasons why the front office is hell-bent on keeping him.

This season, the Pistons added another piece to their team, as they have signed former league MVP Derrick Rose to a two-year deal. The team is optimistic that the trio of Drummond, Griffin, and Rose will be good enough to help them make a deep run in the postseason.

At this point, it is unclear if the Pistons will be willing to offer Drummond a max deal. The double-double machine is still just 26 years old and one can argue that he's just starting to reach his prime. If Detroit decides to keep Dre long-term, they will have a solid piece to build around, especially if Griffin is traded before his contract ends in 2022.

Drummond will probably be one of the most sought after forwards in the free-agent market if he decides not to re-sign with the Pistons. He's averaging 14.1 points and 13.7 rebounds in his career and if he leaves next summer, it will be a huge blow for Detroit.

Which is why it is a must for the front office to do everything that they can to make sure that Drummond stays in Motor City.
