Former NBA big man and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins is perplexed why Derrick Rose is still on the Detroit Pistons.

Rose poured in 31 points on Friday against the Phoenix Suns to help the Pistons get their 20th win of the season. Perkins thinks Rose should be on a contender instead of a lottery team.

The Pistons don’t plan to buy out Rose. Detroit got a bunch of calls on Rose at the trade deadline, but they were only going to move the former MVP if they got a first round pick in return.

Detroit won’t make the playoffs this season. However, they are trying to be competitive next season since power forward Blake Griffin will hopefully be back healthy. With that said, they are probably hoping that Rose and Griffin can lead the Pistons to the postseason in 2020-21.

Rose signed a two-year deal with Detroit this past summer in free agency. The Pistons' vice chairman is Arn Tellem, who used to be Rose’s agent. It’s clear that Rose is comfortable with the Motor City team despite their terrible record.

In 49 games for the Pistons this season, Rose is averaging 18.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists. The Chicago native is also shooting 48.9 percent from the field, 30.1 percent from beyond the arc and 86.9 percent from the free-throw line.
