Blake Griffin is now with the Detroit Pistons and will team up with center Andre Drummond to form a daunting one-two punch in the Motor City.

Inasmuch as the news may be disappointing at the moment for Griffin, who was supposedly the team’s franchise player, the turn of events could be a blessing in disguise for the University of Oklahoma product.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, a scout believes that his situation is very much similar to Hall-of-Fame candidate and now TNT commentator Chris Webber.

“One scout's take on Blake Griffin going to Detroit: ‘It'll be the best thing for his career.’ Compared it to Chris Webber going to Sacramento, where he had his best seasons. ‘He'll have no choice but to focus on basketball.’”

Both Webber and Griffin are power forwards.

Webber was an amazing talent who played for the Golden State Warriors and the Washington Wizards before he was traded to the Kings in Sacramento. At the time, Webber was devastated as the Kings were perennial doormats of the entire league. But thanks to some shrewd player movements, the Kings were able to put together a team that would compete for the championship for several years.

With the Eastern Conference lacking in star power after the exodus of several players to the West, Griffin could take the Pistons closer to a championship.

For now, though, he will have to settle for helping Drummond in bringing the Pistons back in playoff contention. Detroit is currently ninth in the East with a 22-26 record.

After being discarded by the Clippers who are looking to rebuild, Griffin is more than motivated to deliver a career year with the Pistons.
