Athletes protesting has been a hot-button topic in sports today. Colin Kaepernick ignited it all when he decided to kneel while the national anthem is played prior to games back in his days with the San Francisco 49ers.  Although he’s out of the NFL for some time now, Kaepernick managed to inspire other NFL players to follow suit and protest police brutality and racial inequality in society by taking a knee prior to games.

The NBA has yet to see a player do the same this season, but many have spoken about their support for the same cause Kaepernick is fighting for. LeBron James and plenty other NBA personalities, including Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy, even went as far as to criticize US president Donald Trump for fanning the flames of racism and xenophobia in the country.

Speaking recently to a group of reporters, Van Gundy offered his full support for athletes who have been voicing their opinions while calling out the hypocrisy of those against sports stars taking a stand on social issues.

Todd Dybas of the Washington Times’ has a transcript of Stan Van Gundy’s complete take.

Maybe Van Gundy, Steve Kerr, and San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich can form their own coalition and run this country in the future.
