Former NBA player Tayshaun Prince could be considered as the Detroit Pistons' next general manager, a team which he helped guide to a championship in the early 2000s.

As reported by Gerry Woelfel of Woelfel's Press Box, the Pistons are looking to fill in the vacant position with a former NBA player.

Prince spent a chunk of his NBA career with the Pistons. A defensive stalwart, he formed part of the Pistons team in the 2000s which won a championship in the 2003-04 season, then continued on to be a top playoff contender throughout the course of the decade. He retired in 2016 and is currently the special assistant to general manager for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Pistons are looking for a relatively young executive to be the face of the franchise. And Prince seems a perfect fit for the job — being a former NBA player with significant experience in the front office.

Sought for comment, former teammate Ben Wallace believes that Prince has proven himself fully capable in the executive ranks:

As reported by Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, Wallace said:

“Tayshaun is one of those guys that’s flying under the radar, but his basketball I.Q. is incredibly high,” former Pistons defensive stalwart Ben Wallace told the Free Press on Thursday.

“He’s been in the business for a year or so; it definitely shows he’s willing to take the job seriously. He’s proven he can do it.”

“I definitely think he’s a guy the Pistons should also consider and give a shot to,” Wallace said of his former teammate. “Tayshaun is one of those guys that wasn’t a big rah-rah player, but he got the job done and he understood the game of basketball.”
